“Shhhh!” hisses Disc Jockey Will Glass, a.k.a. $bILL (pronounced Dollar Bill) to the crowd of D.J.s in the broadcast booth of Washington Heights Free Radio. Silence falls and he turns down the feed coming from an L.E.D.-lit record player to his right. He presses play on a tape deck and a scratchy voice says “Washington Heights.” $bILL turns the music back up, “I just wanted to do that,” he says with a shy smile. The conversation starts up again.
